Project Overview :

The objectives of this project were to study existing generic policies, practices, and methods of e-assessment, identify human (including gender differences), institutional, technological, operational issues, develop an e-assessment generalized model, test the applicability and acceptability of the newly developed model in two of the partner institutions of the project (i.e. Pakistan and Sri Lanka), and suggest future applications of the model.

The outputs included a generalized e-assessment framework that has been tested in the partner institutions and recommendation for standardization on e-assessment for Asian region. The framework, the training materials, and the prototypes of the instructional design aim to be gender and culture sensitive for Asian students and faculty.

There is a widespread concern in the PAN network to develop secure and reliable methods of online student assessment in DL. The project teams (from Indonesia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka) represent a comprehensive range of computing expertise, and have combined to develop assessment and evaluation strategies for application by PAN DL partners henceforward. The online assessment issue currently has a high priority in the international DL field, in view of the increasing threats to online security. The need to address the field's problems is central to the success of online education; and the project's findings therefore have immediate international significance.
